Smooth Heels
Smooth Heels

Tired of those dry cracked heels? I've got a little tip that will make your heels looking beautiful in no time! I recommend buying a good foot file. Sally's Beauty Supply carries a good one. It has strong sanding paper on both sides and is long enough to hold on to and get good stability. DO NOT file feet in the shower! Getting the file wet will soften the sandpaper and make it less efficient. File on DRY feet only. That means file before you get into the shower. Sit in a chair and cross one foot over the other knee and file away. You'll see the dry skin coming off very quickly. Be sure to clean your file with warm water, a nail brush and anti bacterial soap and dry it well. When your file starts to break down, Sally's carries replacement peel and stick sand paper strips for the files. Buy some more and apply. Another good trick to help moisten those feet after you've removed the dead skin, is to get two produce baggies, like the ones you get at the grocery store. Put on a good foot lotion, preferrably one that does not contain water as the first or second ingredient, since water is very drying to the skin. I recommend either NeXcare or Heel to Toe found also at Sally's Beauty. NeXcare is usually found at the drug store. Apply the lotion and put the baggies on your feet for an hour or so while you lay in bed, read or watch TV. The baggies help keep heat and moisture in while opening the pores enough to allow the lotion to absorb into the feet. Using socks pulls the lotion into the material and takes away from the complete benefit of having it absorb into your skin. If you keep up on filing your heels and applying lotion, you should make it through the summer without those ugly cracked heels. Remember to get frequent pedicures as well. A nail technician can always give good tips to keeping feet healthy not to mention doing most of the work for you.
